GIANT Games for Kibaoni

Posted by at 11:25 AM

The Kibaoni Primary School will be receiving two wonderful educational games for the children. GIANT Word Winder and GIANT Math Winder will be arriving at the school in late September when the game’s inventor is traveling with 5 other people including two foundation board members to present the game to the school. Please read below about these exciting games and check out the YOUTUBE video to see how fortunate the children will be to get these games. The best news of that the inventor of the game, David Hoyt, has made the GIANT Word Winder in Swahili for our school. The foundation is incredibly grateful for the generosity of Word Winder, Inc.

GIANT Word Winder is a 9 foot by 9 foot word game played on the floor. GIANT Word Winder incorporates movement, literacy skills, and team building, for a game that’s fun for kids and adults alike! Players hone spelling and vocabulary skills while working together in teams to make a winding path of words that, when victorious, successfully crosses one side of the board to the opposite side.

GIANT Math Winder is the same size and is played in the same way but instead of making a winding path of words, players make equations by mentally inserting functions between each number. For example if the number 7, 5, and 2 are all touching in order you would say 7 minus 5 equals 2.

GIANT Word Winder is played in 3 teams of 5 or less, which is 15 kids at a time. We will need about 2 feet of space surrounding the boards, so a 13’x13′ space will be ideal. Each game of GIANT Word Winder can take somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes.
