Teacher Housing Campaign
Each year, teachers at Kibaoni Primary School share an urgent request: “housing for the teachers.” This need goes beyond shelter — it directly impacts the quality of education, school security, and student success

Two Kibaoni visitors, sisters, one a teacher and the other a communications executive, were incredibly moved by the devotion of the faculty, especially when they learned about the lack of teacher housing. They contacted the Foundation and have been instrumental in launching this project by jump-starting the effort by pledging a $30,000 match. The Foundation has committed $10,000 from our General Fund.

Why It Matters
Kibaoni Primary is rural and far from Karutu, where most teachers live in one-room rentals in the homes of local residents. Each day, they travel long distances by bus, scooter, or on foot, sometimes walking for miles, a costly and challenging journey, especially during the rainy season, when dirt roads become muddy and nearly impassable. Yet, they do this with no stipend for rent, but with huge hearts for their students. Having on-campus housing would allow teachers to focus more on teaching and less on travel.
